EXCLUSIVE: RANGERS GO GLOBAL
February 12, 2008 - Daily Hun Newsdesk
Following on from the announcement that clubs in the EPL will now play certain EPL games outwith the frontiers of England, Rangers have announced a sensational deal which will mean that the club will play half of next season’s games against top class opposition in some of the world’s most exotic locations.
There are however some important differences with the deal for English clubs, as Mr Martin Bain pointed out this morning.
“We will not be using SKY to broadcast the games but instead, Grampian television.”
“This of course means that we retain the ‘Scottish’ dimension, and that is important to our very British identity. Equally we find the focus of the English clubs too limited. Everything seems to be geared towards Asia and simply raking in money and ripping off a gullible viewing public. Rangers isn’t like that. We have already identified areas in this great globe of ours where we see great potential for the Rangers brand mark. Without giving too much away, let’s just say Patagonia, Outer Mongolia and Togo look mighty appealing at this stage”.
As for opposition, it is clear that the likes of Gretna and Falkirk will have the fans drooling at the spectacle of them playing the mighty Rangers in their own backyard, or shoreline.
Bain refused to be drawn on the amounts of money involved, but would only say that it was in the hundreds of millions. Now we all know hwere the 700 million pounds for the new stadium is coming from.
