A SPECIAL MESSAGE FOR MARGARET

A special Message For Margaret.
Dear Margaret, as the light slowly declines I wish to place on record my own personal appreciation of your sterling efforts to rescue this country of ours from dark, alien forces. Great Britain is a political and physical reality. Way back in the mists of history, it was obvious that we, the English, the Scots, the Welsh and true Ulstermen were hewn from the same stout oak.
When Magnus Carter put pen to paper, he enshrined our basic rights and liberties. This quintessential Britishness was embodied when King William of Orange (who wasn’t British, but became a good one eventually) routed the Catholic/Republican/Monarchists at the Battle of the Boyne.
You imbued us with a sense of pride, and I can vividly recall weeping tears of joy, the day our lads retook Port Stanley. When Prince Andrew stepped off his helicopter accompanied by his butler, I knew we were back in business.
You destroyed the communists in the shape of the Bolshevistic miners and reduced the unions to their proper role. Margaret, you also sorted out Ireland not giving an inch to the terrorist Republicans. Okay, you did sign the Anglo-Irish agreement which eventually led to power sharing. And okay, you did cause a lot of misery and slaughter following on from your irrational decision not to give into the demands of the hunger strikers. And okay, the fact that you did actually cave in to their demands very quietly later on doesn’t really matter.
But Margaret, your rise to power coincided with the rebirth of Rangers. Like you , we too found it very difficult in Europe. You clearly learned a lot from Sir David Murray and he was a major source of inspiration in those early days. There was always a season ticket available for you if you had only picked up the phone. I felt for you on the bleak day when you were forced to present the great unwashed with the Scottish Cup at Hampden. Whilst they waved their tri-colours at you and subjected you to a tirade of verbal abuse, your dignity shone through. Margaret, your portrait hangs on my bedroom wall, next to my poster of Paul Gascoigne.
Maam, I salute you.
By Daffyd Edgar.
